Brief History...Insurgency: Modern Infantry Combat is a collective effort made by a group of developers. Our goal is to create an immersive and enjoyable first-person-shooter with next-generation production values based on Valve Software's Source Engine. It all started when, back in 2002, Andrew "Argyll" Spearin begun his basic training for the Canadian
Army. Spearin's idea was to create a first-person-shooter that could get right some of the things other shooters seemed to have gotten wrong: realism, immersive gameplay and teamwork were the key values of this initial vision.
Insurgency Team has tried to shape the mod around this original vision, and transform it into what it is now. During all this time, INS has become a huge project on a global scale. Many developers and contributors, from all over the world, have added to the overall experience - quite a few of them have become professionals in the videogame industry thanks, at least partially, to their work and the experience gained by being part of the Insurgency Team. Right now, Insurgency enjoys a loyal player base, a thriving community, a dedicated and stable group of developers and a constant flow of updates and releases that have consolidated this mod as one of the top Source mods available. Insurgency: Modern Infantry Combat has received the Player's Choice 2007 Mod of the Year award from ModDB, as well as the "Best Source Mod of 2007" Gold Award from Steamfriends. The current development plans of this total conversion include new theatres, a jump to the current Orange Box engine, and a constant flow of updates and improvements that will carry Insurgency into the next generation. The Concept...Insurgency's primary concept is to create an immersive online
combat experience for the player, with an emphasis on teamwork and realistic elements to create
intense firefights in detailed environments. Insurgency is designed as a modular game split into Operational Theatres: The first of them, already released, is set during the present war in Iraq, after
the fall of the government and the end of major combat operations. The second theatre, now under development, is based on a yet-undisclosed Eastern European conflict. Other theatres and settings are planned in the future! INS is a fun and unique
gaming experience. If your
play style is geared towards using real tactics, teamwork, communication, and personal skill,
the conventional armies' side will probably be your favorite. If
you prefer to get into the action and have some fun, grab
your AK47 or RPG and let loose as a guerrilla or paramilitary
fighter. Assymetrical combat, and different -but equally challenging- gameplay styles are the key for an ever-changing game environment that will please both hardcore-tactical and casual gamers. |
